What a Pleasant Surprise! Our team was walking down the block looking for a place to eat and decided on Houston Bistro at the last minute because of the menu. I ordered the salmon because I wanted to be healthy and it was the best salmon I have eaten in a long time. The saute veggies were perfect and the waiter Jesse is absolutely the best every. We have been eating at Houston St. almost weekly since our arrival in March. I have recommended this restaurant to locals because I feel the prices and the food is great. The chef Mike is superb who is excellent at grilling foods. I highly recommend the salmon but others in my team like the braised short ribs. Thank you Jesse and Mike for always be pleasant and making us feel at home we will miss you when we depart in June. I know Jesse usually works Wednesday nights. Try it out you will like it.

Owner was rude reminded me of the "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld. Obviously disappointed we did not order wine and that we were not fashionably dressed. The bread was stale and the oil to dip was just that oil no other flavor at all. The food was disgusting, I had the Peter Pan, Chicken cordon bleu which was cooked to a crisp on the outside and tough as shoe leather, The steamed veggies were more like room temp and the mashed potatoes were bland. BUT to top it off was the chipotle sauce that the chicken sat on that was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted in my entire life. My guest had the Chicken Gorgonzola (Bye bye birdie) and the chicken was tender and edible but was heavily seasoned with tarragon. The waiter I am assuming was the owner yes the soup Nazi was just outright rude and pompous. Avoid this place, it is not worth the money or the time.
I really do like the food here, but you should only go if you have a leisurely evening and no theater event to attend. We had a 6:45 reservation and did arrive a bit late, almost 7:00. So we asked our waiter if we would make the 8:00 curtain at the Empire. No problem, he says. Then he disappears so that 15 minutes later, we have to ask another waiter to please take our order and also told him we had an 8:00 curtain. He assured us it would be okay. We specifically ordered food we thought would be quick to prepare. Then it took another 15 minutes to get a bowl of SOUP. No communication from our waiter the whole time. May I add here, there were only about 6 tables of diners in the restaurant. Finally the soup comes. It was delicious. At 7:45 I flagged him down and said we must have our food now. He brought the food, we ate a few bites, asked for boxes and our check. As we stood to leave, the maitre de who had seated us and had been sitting at the bar gazing in our direction the whole time came over to limply ask how things were. We explained that it had been so slow we couldn’t even eat our dinners. He objected that we had come in at 7:00. I guess meaning there was plenty of time?? I’m not sure. We said, but we didn’t get our dinners till 7:45, and now there’s no time to eat them. He gave a very half hearted "I’m sorry". It’s bad enough the waiters did not pay attention to us when we had specifically said we were seeing a show but for the maitre de to care so little goes way beyond. As I mentioned the food is delicious. But this place being so close to two major theaters needs to step up the service so they can serve the theater crowds which I would think would be a big bonanza for them.
This was my first dinner there even though I’ve been wanting to visit for years! We started with the Smoked Salmon, and it was perfect large portion, and not too salty. It was just right with the cream cheese, eggs, and capers! For the meals, I had the ribeye, and it was cooked to perfection! Crispy outside, but so tender inside! Perfect! My husband had the dinner special which was the Salmon with artichoke hearts, with a reduced white wine sauce over mashed potatos and sauteed spinach! The salmon was also cooked so perfectly, I had to come home to write a review! It had great flavor, and cooked, but not dry! Really impressed with both entrees. Then we finished with the cheesecake that was so creamy and fluffy! Again, the perfect end to a wonderful feast!
The only thing I wished that could have made it even better is if they had valet parking like the neighboring restaurants. I guess it;s ok when you are going to see a show at the Majestic, but it’s more expense when you go on your own. Hope they work on that in the off season for the Theater, like now.
Overall, the service was spot on, and the food over the top! I highly recommend this restaurant for really good fresh food and service to boot!
We went here for a co worker’s birthday lunch. My problem with Houston Street Bistro is that they should be aware of the fact that we have a lunch HOUR. However, it took them like 10 minutes to sit us down, another 15 for them to take our lunch order, and after we ate and asked them for our ticket, it took them another 15 minutes to bring to us. Very Nice! I arrived prime time on a Wednesday night, with no theatre event next door, Silver Strass Marale 120mm and was the only diner. The Greek salad was excellently prepared with good selection of lettuces, vegetables and feta. A meal in its self. I foliwed it with the tender, moist, abundantly ’crabbed’ cake. Also very nice. Service was the perfect balance of service and intrusion. Others should try this place. A great find away from the craziness of the river walk.

The International Space Station (and the Discovery Space Shuttle) will be making a couple of super fast fly bys over Toronto tonight and tomorrow. And though it won’t look like the photo above, if you know where to direct your gaze, it should be pretty cool to watch it whip through the sky.
According to Space Weather, "the International Space Station is the biggest, brightest object orbiting Earth. The station’s solar arrays span 240 feet from tip to tip, almost as wide as a football field. The ISS outshines Venus; only the sun and Moon are brighter."
Because it doesn’t really have lights of its own, the best time to catch the ISS is when it passes your area shortly after sunset (when it picks up sunlight but it remains dark at Black Suede Maillot 160mm ground level). So while fly bys are a fairly common occurrence, these viewing conditions should be nearly ideal.
Here’s the catch: the ISS generally moves across the horizon for only three to four minutes. So if you want to see it, you’ll need to know exactly where to look.
